About this event

DYCD will be hosting a series of virtual town halls entitled “We the YOUTH, You the People.” We will kick off the event discussing Structural Racism on August 19, 2020 from 3:00pm-5:00pm. One of the goals of the town hall series is to create a safe space for young people to harness their voice and power. The uncertainty of funding, current health pandemic, and civil unrest make it even more important that youth voice and agendas inform future funding priorities, programming and policies. The proposed themes for the series include Systemic Racism, LGBTQI Rights, Education, Mass Incarceration, Environmental Justice, Immigration/DACA, Young Queens Collective, the Male Perspective and Accessibility.

We know that there are young people doing this work, and we want to engage them, with guidance from scholars, activists and advocates, in creating the change they deserve. DYCD’s youth leadership council, My Brother’s and Sister’s Keeper, and CUNY’s Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR), are carrying the torch in the planning and implementation of the series, and will lead the way for young people to be inspired and mobilized. Make a change and join the movement.
