The Flavors of Taishan Tea

  • 24 Rutgers Street New York, NY, 10002 United States (map)

In celebration of Chinatown Arts Week, tea educator Anna Ye is offering 30-min tasting sessions for our friends, family, and neighbors in the community to sample three unique teas from Taishan. Upon stepping into the silk tea dome, you'll quickly be transported to a cool and tranquil oasis; teas and conversation that will nourish and ground you.

Many of the early Chinese immigrants that arrived in America came from Taishan (Toisan in Cantonese). In fact, those abroad like Alice Liu of Grand Tea & Imports can still trace their roots back to this area in Southern China. You'll get to sample three unique Taishan teas, sourced by Alice and her family, that are mostly unknown in the tea world but are still enjoyed by the local Taishan people in China and overseas.

An experience for those nostalgic for the flavors of Taishan or anyone who wants to taste and learn about these special teas.

** RSVP required at: https://www.anna-ye.com/tea-popup-nyc. Sessions are private and can accommodate up to 4 people per time slot. Vaccinated folks only at this time. Please have proof of vaccination upon arrival. **

Tea Pop-Up made possible by Ines Sun of PencilNYC Studio and ChaShaMa.

Bio:
Anna Ye is a tea educator, a lover of story and culture, and a second generation Chinese-American based in New York City. Prior to launching Anna Ye Tea, a service-based tea company that focuses on educational and cultural events, she worked closely with hospitality industry professionals to develop their tea programs at the beloved In Pursuit of Tea. She also has a background in various front-of-house positions at fine dining establishments like Chikalicious and Restaurant Daniel.

Anna’s tea journey became one of self discovery, where the narrative of the tea plant exists beyond a beverage on a menu. She sees tea as a vehicle to deeper her appreciation for Asian culture, foster meaningful dialogue, and to bridge cultures. Anna is interested in building a tea business that is rooted in culture, community, and compassion– and is exploring that through projects like Beyond The Cup, a series of live discussions with tea professionals and enthusiasts. This on-going project is a means to illuminate greater understanding for the global story of tea, and to bring more awareness to tea traditions and practices that are lesser known.
